Evaluation Questions

During todays lesson we were told about the evaluation and how we could tackle the questions presented to use. The questions we all must answer are below:

• In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

• How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

• What have you learned from your audience feedback?

• How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

The ways we can tackle the questions can be many ways yet one thing has to be done, it has to be done on some form computer program. This can mean:

• Prezi
• Youtube
• Powerpoint
• Podcast
• Microsoft Word
• Glogster

These are all different ways we can answer the questions provided.

This video is not fully video clips that i have recorded, instead the song goes up to the latest video clip section, the parts left out are yet to be recorded.

Rough cut #1

In this rough cut the attire the singer was wearing was not the original intended outfit. I wanted him to look smart but due to the singer not having that type of clothing we decided to go for the casual look for the video.

At the End of the video the lip sync is out of place. this is because the singer remembered the word halfway through it being said. this will not be in the final video as we will be reshooting this scene

This is what i want the actual advert to look like when complete. I didn't put the information the product as this is currently just a draft of the final product. The advert cover itself will be the digipak's cover without the special effects added to it.

For my digipak idea i will do something very similar like what is shown above except using my own image sources. I will have the front cover and the back side of the front cover as the front and back of the singer, Ben, and have him fading into smoke.
The title of the album will be Ben's last name, Thompson. This will be bold and stand out from the dark background.

Lyrics breakdown

These are the lyrics to the song Gunslinger by Avenged Sevenfold. From the start to 0:30 its just talking, setting up the story. Once its at 0:30 the music video starts and so does the singing. This song is about war and how someone who's been and trained for it, cannot forget what happened or what they saw. The lyrics used in the song is constantly sticking to the original idea and is helping tell the story of one, if not all of the soldiers and their feelings. All the soldiers want to do is return home to their families ("It doesn't matter when i'm coming home to you"), appear strong for those around them and not show their fears that they have gained through such turmoil ("Never Let it show, the pain i've come to know"). Yet once the lyrics get to about 2:40, they change in mood slightly. They're no longer focused fully on returning but saying that they've proven themselves to each other  yet something happens to one of the soldiers stopping them from returning, and this can be seen in the lyrics through 3:43 onwards.

To use the song we wanted to use we needed to first seek permission from the owners of that songs rights, so here is the email that I sent to get the rights of use.

Mood Board

Video Analysis - Rock

The video has the typical rock genre setting, the band on a stage. Like most avenged sevenfold videos the band is alone in their location when they are singing. The concept of this video is about escaping their afterlife as they are not ready for it or ever will be. There is a link between the lyrics and some of the visual parts as it shows a man running to the camera, away from a white background. It also links when the band goes from the typical stage location to the white background themselves and their figure go black and white. It also shows a couple dancing, this could be the man running and his “dear” that is mentioned in the lyrics. I’d say that the visuals are mostly illustrative of the lyrics and then the rest have no connection to the song. There is a lot of typical close ups of the band members individually when it comes to rock genre, it also has plenty panning shots that get in all of the band members.

Shot Count #2 - Rock

This shot count is of the Rock genre and contains a lot more shots than the other which normally isn't the case. Normally you find that rock and metal genres have similar shot counts. This video had 251shots. The shots used were mainly close ups of the singers face and of items, full body, shots wide shots of the band.

Digipak Analysis

Shot Count #1 - Heavy Metal

This video is from a band known as Disturbed, their genre in the music world is Heavy Metal. In total there was 173 different shots in this music video. The types of shots that are used in Metal videos are extreme close ups, close ups of the singers and the actors face, medium shots of the band members individually while playing their song, wide shots normally involving most if not all of the band members and at times certain wide shots of the audience if the video has one at all.

Photoshop Experiment #3

This is another experiment that i did on photoshop. To do this one I started off with an image on the first layer. I then created a copy of the image into a second layer. I then created a new colour filled layer (white is the colour i used).

Photoshop Experiment #2

This one gave me the chance to create fake rain on an image. To do this i had to first add Noise to a new layer on the image. I changed the Noise settings so that it was selected on Monotone for the colour of the Noise. I then made that layer a clipping mask which i then used the Motion Blur effect and chose an angle for the noise to go in and the distance of the blurs. I believe it turned out quite well.

Photoshop Experiment #1

This is one of three experiments that I did with photoshop. I took a picture from Game Of Thrones and made it so only the characters had colour to them. To do this I used the Quick Selection tool and selected the two people,  then I inverted the selection so it had only the background selected. Once that was done i created a new Black And White layer, this made a new layer that was entirely black and white in the selected area's which means everywhere but the people. I then added a Hue/Saturation Adjustment to it so that I could change the lighting of the black and white area.
